A companion ... okay, more like bastard stepchild ... to the Chicago-based Monthly Political Cabaret/Happening/Revue/Variety Show for liberal and progressive activists, artists, and sympathizers. (If the NSA is reading this, we swap recipes here. That's all. Really. Swear!)
Democracy Burlesque: Only the Politics Are Naked.
Fascinating post about the nature of comedy and politics -- in reaction to the unctuous FOX NEWS "comedy" series THE 1/2 HOUR COMEDY HOUR. This is a semi-obscure blog that I know of because my former roommate and former classmate of Sandy and myself is quoted extensively in this post and in this blog. I think it's rather interesting. Or maybe I just like "Kicking Power In The Junk" as a potential tag line for DB. Sorry ladies.
Anyway, hit or copy-and-paste the link and discuss in the "comments" section, which everyone is allowed to do.

Season Two starts on Chicago Election Night. Follow the polls and follow the pols at the No Exit Cafe. This month, featuring the tuba-istic stylings of Aaron Phillips, the poetry of Dan Carroll, and more inanity from THE ACTORS OF EVIL, now featuring our new music-and-dance troupe, THE POINTY-HEADED LIBERALS.
Maybe. If you like it. We're nothing if not needy.
Details at the web site. Enjoy!

Just blowing the dust off this thing to see if it works.
The Democracy Burlesque show in February is on Chicago politics. The discussion on the other blogs is mostly on the Republicans blocking an attempt to even debate, much less vote on, stopping the insanity in Iraq. In short, work continues on bringing democracy to all parts of America on a cold winter's day.
Looks like it's time for some silliness.
We're here to oblige.
(Just so long as this thing keeps running in subzero weather ... need to drive it a bit more ...)
Ah, great. Another blog let loosed on the world. Who the Hell are we and why the Hell are we here?
"We" are DEMOCRACY BURLESQUE -- a show, a happening, a place full of Good People and Talent. A monthly revue for liberals and progressives located on the Far North Side of Chicago, in the always thrilling Rogers Park neighborhood. To be specific, a monthly revue on every second Tuesday evening of the month, at the No Exit Cafe.
(Get used to that plug, you'll see it plenty of times in the weeks and months to follow.)
So that's the "we" part. As for the "why?", we put ourselves in Greater Blogostan for several reasons ...
1. It allows us to save the other Internet group for scripts and show stuff.
2. It allows for fun anonymous argument for general amusement of ourselves and others.
3. It allows us to talk about issues that are clogging our arteries, be they political, artistic, or cultural (since that is what we deal with at Democracy Burlesque).
4. Yes, it allows us to promote our shows and ourselves in Greater Blogostan -- a place we're sure are full of potential audience members who we have no doubt will enjoy what we do.
5. It allows us to write an item 5 whether we actually have an item 5 or not.
That's kind of it. It's up to those of us who post here regularly to start to entertain and provoke you to keep visiting this (and eventually our show -- did I mention we are a show, too?), and if we don't do that, we at least hope we find us to be a mildly interesting waste of time between waiting to see if Ned Lamont got your I-think-Joe-Lieberman-is-a-weenie donation on the other browser window.
After that, it's just a crap shoot.
